John’s 62nd birthday bash

IVY

Our good friend, former congressman John Orola, invited us recently to the groundbreaking of his latest business venture – Oroland Park, a new housing subdivision on a sprawling 10-hectare lot at the Circumferential Road, in Barangay Tangub, Bacolod City.

It also coincided with his 62nd birthday celebration that we could not afford to miss. And so, on that sunny weekend afternoon, we hied off to John’s Oroland Park for the first time. Unfortunately, we got lost along the way and had to make hurried calls to Dr. Ver Lacson, who gave us the instructions on how to get there. After a short while, we finally made it and we were so impressed with the place. There were tall trees all around, which sheltered us from the searing sun. A cool refreshing breeze kept us comfortable in the alfrescosetting.

A big crowd had already gathered by the time we got there. John’s family: his loving Mama, siblings, nephews and nieces were on hand to help him welcome all his guests. Fr. Zaldy Orola and Fr. Paul Tabino concelebrated the mass that opened the ceremony. After a welcome speech, John invited all the guests to tour the park and see what it offered.

I must say the place is a perfect location for a housing project with its eco-friendly innovation, ingeniously-angled to utilize optimum light, reduce heat and make use of the strong breeze to cool the homes that will be built there. (Look Ma, no aircon needed!). There were a number of artistic statues of saints made by a gifted local sculptor, which gave the place a certain Italian ambiance. I could already picture the future residents of this subdivision taking a moonlight stroll along the pathways, with the romance of stars up above, weaving a magical setting.

Everyone enjoyed the sumptuous merienda cena, specially prepared for the occasion. John at 62, is still at the prime of his life with a vision and the energy for more exciting new projects in the future.

Congratulations on your Oroland Park and HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JOHN!*
