SP okays
sisterhood city plan

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

A resolution establishing a sister city relationship between Bacolod City and Makati City and authorizing Mayor Evelio Leonardia to enter into and sign the agreement, was approved by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod yesterday.

The resolution was authored by Councilor Em Leagspi-Ang.

It said the SP had passed Resolution No. 455, series of 2010 on August 11, 2010 that requested the mayor to initiate talks with Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin "Jun Jun" Binay Jr. for a possible sisterhood relation between the cities of Bacolod and Makati, for a long lasting friendship and as basis for exchanging initiatives and experiences in areas of mutual interest in public governance and promotion of commerce, investments, culture and tourism exchanges.

Resolution No. 319, series of 2012 was passed later by the SP on April 18, 2012, reiterating resolution No. 455, series of 2010, it added.

The City of Makati through Mayor Binay expressed its willingness to establish sisterhood ties with the City of Bacolod and latter confirmed his attendance at signing of the sister city agreement scheduled on June 18, 2012, the resolution said.

Ang chairs the SP Committee on Social Services, and Gender and Development.

Meanwhile, the SP approved yesterday on third and final reading an ordinance creating and institutionalizing the Bacolod City Trade and Cultural Center that will showcase Bacolod products, arts and crafts and promote Filipino-Muslim decorative and industrial arts and culture.

Authored by Councilor Sonya Verdeflor, the ordinance said Bacolod City is strategically an ideal center for the promotion of trade, commerce, culture and the arts in the Visayas.

The resolution said Bacolod is known for its rich culture and heritage and is proud of its uniquely Bacolod products and services and arts and crafts manufactured and produced by its sixty one component barangays.

It said Bacolod is home for thousands of Filipino-Muslim brothers, who, together with their families, have traditionally carried the rich culture and arts of the early settlers in Southern Philippines.

Verdeflor is chairman of the Committee on Labor and Management Relations, and Overseas Workers, and is vice chairman of the Committee on Trade, Commerce and Industry, and a member of the Committee on History, Culture and Arts.”CGS
