A Cabinet secretary, a multi-awarded chef, a woman who has empowered others, a charity worker, and a palay seed grower are this year's five outstanding Negrenses.

Social Welfare and Development Secretary Corazon Juliano Soliman will be honored for public service, Antonio Agustin “Tony Boy” Montilla Escalante for culinary arts and business, Dr. Cecilia Dreyfus Del Castillo for women empowerment and microfinance, Araceli “Bukay” Garcia Ramos for community health service, and Romeo Reyes Belmonte for agriculture.

They will be honored by the Negros Occidental provincial government at the 114 th Cinco de Noviembre rites at the provincial Capitol Social Hall in Bacolod City at 5:30 p.m. today, in the presence of their families and the descendants of the heroes of the 1898 Cinco de Noviembre revolution.moremoremore

IN BAGO, SILAY CITIES

The cities of Bago and Silay in Negros Occidental have lined up a series of activities to celebrate the 114th Cinco de Noviembre anniversary today.

In Bago City the theme for this year's celebration is “Reminiscing 114 years of Bagonhon bravery for a better tomorrow.”

The events today will kick off with thanksgiving masses in all the churches, to be followed by the floral offering at the monument of Gen. Juan “Tan Juan” Araneta, one of the heroes of Negros Revolution, by the heirs of the general and city officials, a press release from the Bago City government said.moremoremore

2 cops die in
accidental firing – PNP

Police Regional Office-6 Director Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz reminded policemen in Western Visayas yesterday to handle their firearms properly to avoid accidental firing.

Cruz issued the reminder following the deaths of two policemen from Bacolod City and Public Safety Management Battalion in what appeared to be accidental firing incidents.

Senior Police Officer 1 Noel Paderan of the 6th Regional Public Safety Battalion, based in Victorias City, died at the Riverside Medical Center three days after he accidentally shot himself on October 25.moremoremore
