Philippine paddlers place second
in China table tennis tournament
Local table tennis player Arnie Uy, president of Royal Paddle Table Tennis Club– Bacolod, along with four members from the Table Tennis Association for National Development (TATAND) finished second in the International Veterans Table Tennis Championships held October 26-28 in Zhe-Jiang , China .
The Philippine team, composed of Uy, TATAND vice president Joben Ang, player-coach Charlie Lim, Marcos de Jesus and Philip Uy, bowed to a Chinese provincial team in the finals of the 40-49 event after beating four local Chinese teams and a Korean squad in the elimination round.
In the quarterfinals, Arnie Uy scored two wins while De Jesus bagged one against a Chinese provincial team to secure a semifinal ticket. 
| Arguelles-Flores tandem Fast rising junior tennis player Fernando Jose “JR” Arguelles of Bacolod City added another championship to his name when he captured the title in 14-and-Under boys' doubles category, in partnership with Luke Alquin Flores of Iloilo, in the Philta-sanctioned Junior National Tennis Championships held October 26-31 in Puerto Princesa, Palawan. Arguelles, a sophomore in University of St. La Salle-Integrated School, also finished first runner-up in 14-and-under boys' singles and reached the quarterfinals of the 16-and-under boys' singles at the tournament sponsored by the Palawan Pawnshop and Babolat. In capturing the doubles' title, Arguelles and Flores beat top-seed Cenon Gonzales Jr. of NCR and Vincent Alanis of Bicol, 5-3, 5-4 (7-4). |
