Police nab 4 in drug busts
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

An alleged drug dealer was arrested Saturday by the police in Escalante City after the arrest of three other suspects also engaged in the illegal trade in Manapla, Negros Occidental.

Police Supt. Leo Batiles yesterday identified the arrested suspect in a buy-bust operation in Escalante City as Lacsaman Demasangkay, 68, of Brgy. 6, San Carlos City.

In his report to Mayor Melecion Yap, Batiles said the arrest of Demasangkay in Brgy. Alimango, Escalante City, yielded six grams of suspected shabu and marked money, used in the buy-bust operation.

Investigations by the Escalante police showed that, aside from Escalante, Demasangkay is also operating in the city of San Carlos, an in Calatrava and Toboso towns.

The confiscated shabu was estimated to have a market value of P51,000 at P8,500 per gram.

A similar anti-drug operation of the combined teams of the Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force and Intelligence Branch of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office led to the arrest of three suspects and the confiscation of suspected shabu in Brgy. 2-A, Manapla on Nov. 1.

The arrested suspects were identified Joselito de la Cruz, alias Lito, 42; and Argie Veloso, 26; and Herman de la Cruz, 38, all residents of Manapla.

The transaction was done in coordination with the Manapla police headed by Inspector Julius Ceasar with Joselito and Veloso, using P500 in marked money.

Recovered from the suspects were eight elongated plastic sachets of suspected shabu with a street value of P8, 000, P4, 328 in cash believed to be proceeds from their illegal drug trade, two cellphones used in their transactions as well as illegal drugs paraphernalia.

While an inventory of the seized items was being made, a gunshot was heard and when Senior Inspector Antonio Benitez and PO2 Theo Nick Dioso, went out to investigate, they were fired at by the suspect, later identified as Herman Dela Cruz who initially evaded arrest during the buy-bust operation.

Herman, who suffered a gunshot, was brought to Doctors' Hospital in Bacolod City, where he was arrested by Benitez.*GPB
