A newly born baby girl was found inside a plastic bag hanging from a malunggay (moringa) tree in Brgy. Taculing, Bacolod City, at dawn yesterday.
Teresita Militar, 62, of Springfield Street in St. Francis Village, Brgy. Taculing told the police she heard the baby crying at about 4:30 a.m. but ignored it at first when she went out of her house to check about 5:30 a.m. Militar said, she found a red plastic bag hanging from the tree near her house, and when she opened it, she found the baby wrapped in a cloth in it.
She immediately sought the help of her neighbor, who is a nurse, to check the condition of the baby before bringing her to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.
Bacolod City Police Women and Children's Complaints Desk chief, Insp. Jovy Cabcaban, said that the baby's umbilical cord was still attached to her when she was found.
Cabcaban said the baby may have been born somewhere else and only left near Militar's house and added that it would be impossible for them to look for the person who left the baby as there were no witnesses
She said the baby will be turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development after it is released from the hospital.*APN
