Members of the University of the Philippines Lady Vets Foundation Inc. are conducting a veterinary medical mission and field extension services in Negros Occidental that started Monday and will end Sunday.

Dr. Renante Decena, provincial veterinarian, said yesterday that this is part of their annual service through extension and training activity.

The lectures will cover wet laboratory on serological surveillance for swine and poultry diseases, parasitic diseases, and hands-on session on the use of Global Positioning System, or GPS, that will be attended by city veterinarians, livestock technicians, and paraveterinarians, Decena said.

Also to be discussed are theoretical aspects and hands-on practices on food and feed safety, quarantine and regulatory functions of veterinarians, wildlife and wild bird surveillance, small animal practice, small ruminants, large animal and avian medicine, he also said.

Decena said, Bacolod City and Negros Occidental are fortunate to be chosen by the foundation for its SET 2012 that has also been conducted in Palawan, General Santos City, Cagayan Valley, Lipa City and in Thailand since it started in 2005.

The group is bringing 28 students from the University of Philippines Los Baños-College of Veterinary Medicine and alumni of Bureau of Animal Industry and the Food and Agriculture Organization, he added.*LTG
