‘Elusive pusher’
escapes buy-bust

An elusive illegal drug pusher evaded arrest during a buy-bust operation conducted by the Bacolod City Police Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group at about 3:30 p.m. yesterday in Brgy. Bata.

CAIDSOTG head, Supt. Santiago Rapiz, said they conducted a buy-bust operation against Bobby Alvarez, “alias Maw”, 47, of Purok Bayabasan, Brgy. Bata on information that he is into the illegal drugs trade.

Rapiz said Alvarez gave a small sachet of suspected shabu to a police poseur buyer in exchange for P200. However, Alvarez’s wife, whose name was not disclosed, saw the policemen approaching and warned her husband.

Alvarez fled towards his house, exited through a secret door and left the P200 marked money, a cellular phone and a wallet, that contained P380 in cash, on top of a table, police records show.

Rapiz said Alvarez is reportedly the supplier of illegal drugs to tricycle, trisikad and jeepney drivers in their area. Although he was able to escape, charges for illegal drug sale will be filed against him, he said.

Meanwhile, charges also for illegal drug sale and illegal gun possession will be filed against Jummel Camento, 24, of Purok Neptune in Brgy. Singcang-Airport before the Bacolod City Prosecutor’s Office this week, the police said.

Camento was apprehended in a buy-bust operation at about 1:30 p.m. in the purok after he handed a small plastic sachet of suspected shabu to a police poseur buyer in exchange for P300.

Aside from the sachet of the banned substance, an improvised shotgun or “sulpak”, two cellular phones, a tooter and a lighter were also recovered from Camento during his arrest, the police said.*APN

PNP establishing
PWD desks in R6

The Police Regional Office 6 is pioneering the establishment of desks to cater to Persons With Disabilities.

Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz, regional police director of Western Visayas, said the PWD Desk will be attached to the Women and Children’s Protection Desks in police stations and other PNP units regionwide.

Cruz said they will also conduct related trainings for police personnel to be assigned at the PWD Desk, in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development, to ensure its responsiveness to the targeted sector.

He also said the implementation guidelines of the project are already under final review.

“As soon as we have fine-tuned its mechanics and make it operational in the region, we will propose it to the PNP National Headquarters for implementation in all police units nationwide,” Cruz said.*GPB
