Kirell Brahndon Montalbo scored 33 points to spark Jast Enterprises over the Huminova Tigers, 95-70, while Organic Solutions won against Basecom, 107-95, in the latest match-up of the Fil-sino All Asian Countertrade 3rd Conference Inter-Color Basketball Tournament at the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.
Jast Enterprises and Organic Solutions are tied atop the Class A standings at 2-0 and will part ways tonight in the 7 p.m. encounter.
Montalbo sizzled with 24 points in the opening quarter, scoring 16 points in one stretch, and his last 12 points coming from the three-point area to give Jast a 33-10 opening quarter advantage.
Mark Binguan, Peter Paul Ortaliz and Nico Lopingco delivered 9, 8 and 6 points, respectively, for the Tigers to cut the lead at the break, 47-40.
But the Tigers were tamed in the second half as they can only managed 30 points with 10 points coming from Ortaliz, while Jast got a big lift from the five triples of Dr. Chico Coruña supported and Montalbo’s 9 points to complete the rousing victory.
Jast also got help from Yan Yan Dy’s 15 points, Badong Eufre’s 7-point contribution, and Julius Teruel’s 6 points.
Ortaliz paced the Tigers with 18 points, Ralph Richard Tan scored 10, RB Chua had 8, and Chibon Uy with 6 points.
In the second game, it was a high scoring opening quarter for both teams with Organic on top at 33-28.
Organic was led by Arnol Laureño, who sizzled with 14 points and John Montemayor’s outside sniping tallying 8, while Robbie Jalando-on and Vincent Tan combined for 21 points for Basecom.
Organic sustained its high scoring output in the second quarter to extend the lead to 61-46 at the half with Charlton Ong scoring 10 point, Johnnyson Yu with 7, and Michael Ang with 6 points.
Kenderson Hao, Jalando-on and Joshua Co fired 11, 12, and 8 points, respectively in the second half rally for Basecom, but their comeback efforts fell short as Laureño and Ang led a balanced offensive to hold off Basecom.
Laureño finished with 22 points while Ang and Ong had 14 points each.
Jalando-on finished with 23 points, Tan added 18 points, and Frederick Ong delivered 14 points for Basecom.*with a report from Stephen Tan
