National Bureau of Investigation-Bacolod agent-in-charge Ferdinand Lavin yesterday said his office is conducting a separate investigation into the fatal shooting of hotelier Johnny Chua on the request of his family.
Chua’s family had written to them last week asking for their help in the swift resolution of the case, Lavin said.
On October 23, the family of suspected gun-for-hire Pic Raymond Longno sought the help of the NBI to determine whether or not he was indeed the one who killed Chua.
Chua's son, Brent Andrew, who was driving their family’s black Isuzu Alterra when the businessman was shot, reportedly by Longno, at about 6:30 p.m. on October 20 at JV-Burgos Street, Bacolod, went to the NBI office and assured his cooperation in the investigation.
The parallel investigation on the killing by the NBI does not mean that his family is losing confidence in the police investigation, rather, it will be done for the swift resolution of the case, Lavin said.
Bacolod City Police Special Operations Task Group head, Supt. Santiago Rapiz, said it is not a big deal if the Chua family sought a separate probe on his killing.
Rapiz said they are willing to share with the NBI whatever details or evidences they have gathered in the course of their own investigation because, at the end of the day, they share the common goal, which is to give justice to the family of Chua.
He maintained that Longno is their prime suspect in the killing of Chua, and as they have three witnesses to prove it.
Chua, 63, of Capitolville Subdivision and owner of East View Hotel was shot in the armpit allegedly by Longno and died while being treated at the Riverside Medical Center. However, Longno himself was gunned down on October 21 by two unidentified men at Malaspina Street in Brgy. Villamonte, Bacolod.*APN back
