JV, Jinggoy not
`best of friends’

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

San Juan Rep. Juan Victor (JV) Ejercito, the son of former President Joseph Estrada with Negrense Guia Guanzon Gomez, yesterday said he has never done anything that would indicate that his relationship with his half-brother, Senator Jinggoy Estrada, is “hostile or antagonistic.”

While he admitted in a recent interview with Bacolod reporters that he and Senator Jinggoy are not “buddy-buddy or text mates,” they are civil to each other, JV stressed that he was just responding to insinuations.

“If my answers in that interview hurt him, JV said it was not his intention. Neither did I mean to gain political capital at his expense by making our disagreement public,” JV, said in a statement he issued.

During his visit to San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, JV was asked about a possible debate with his half-brother in the Senate, should he win, his reply was “that is exciting to see”.

JV admitted an existing sibling rivalry between him and his brother Senator Jinggoy. “However, we are better now, although, admittedly and honestly, we are not best of friends, buddies and text mates”, he stressed.

JV claimed yesterday that he was misquoted.

JV, who is now using Ejercito-Estrada as his family name in his senatorial bid next year, said he and his brother promised to serve their countrymen to the best of their abilities.

“I believe both of us love our father. That is why, on my part, I will always try to bridge the gap that separates us, considering our family’s circumstances. I’m sure my Kuya Jinggoy will reciprocate the effort,” JV also said.*GPB
