Party loyalty
needed, Alvarez says

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A consultation may have been made by the national leadership of the Nationalist People’s Coalition with local members, before the decision to withdraw the nomination of Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer as the party congressional candidate in the fourth district of Negros Occidental in the 2013 elections, Negros Occidental Rep. Mercedes Alvarez said yesterday.

However, Alvarez also said that being a member of a political party, you should be loyal to it. As to the real reason for the CONA (Certificate Of Nomination and Acceptance) withdrawal, she said she is not aware of it.

The withdrawal by the NPC of the CONA issued to Ferrer was reportedly due to his support for the re-election of Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr,, instead of Vice Governor Alvarez , the gubernatorial bet of the party in the election next year.

Marañon said Thursday that what happened to Ferrer will strengthen the United Negros Alliance, of which the solon is also a member.

UNA, which was founded by business tycoon Eduardo Cojuangco, is presently chaired by Marañon.

Despite the recent developments, Rep. Alvarez said her relationship with Ferrer remains good, although she has not talked to him in the past days.*GPB
