A public hearing on the proposed anti-truancy ordinance for elementary and high school students of Bacolod City was held recently at the Bacolod City New Government Center, press release from the City said.
City Executive Assistant, Vic Ramos and Fely Caras of the Department of Social Services and Development and about 20 representatives from the city’s different barangays attended the hearing focused on the responsibility of school children, parents, school authorities and establishments (internet bars, billiard halls, movie houses, video shops and those serving prohibited drinks for minors, during school hours), the press release said.
As suggested during the hearing, the various barangays should hold seminars for concerned establishments and residents for an effective compliance and understanding of the ordinance, the press release also said.
Among other prohibitions, the ordinance proposed by Councilor Mona Dia Jardin states that it shall be unlawful for all elementary and high school students of Bacolod to stay or linger inside the school campus and in public and private places outside the school campus during school hours.
It also said that any parent, teacher or school authority and business operator found violating the ordinance, or encouraging its violation, will be penalized and all fines collected by the barangay shall form part of the barangay fund for use in its effective implementation, the press release added.*
