A fund-raising project called “Christmas Bears of Hope” was launched Saturday by SM City Bacolod at the SM City Bacolod Event Center to support the Kalipay Negrense Foundation campaign for homeless, malnourished, sexually and physically abused, out-of-school youth and special children.
This Christmas, SM Supermalls is celebrating the holidays by remembering all the things that make Christmas merry: music, laughter, indulgence, gift-giving and the spirit of sharing, George Jardiolin, SM City Bacolod mall manager, said.
He said music will be in the air in all 46 Supermalls as they serenade people with childrens’ choirs, the Von Trapp Family Singers, SM’s ‘random girl,’ and a host of other musical talents.
They enjoin the public to share with the less fortunate orphans chosen by each mall through their Bears of Joy Program, where P200 buys two teddy bears, one to keep and one to give to a child in need.
Angelo Alba of Kalipay Negrense, said the foundation was spearheaded by Anna Balcells in 2007 with some friends, now has 70 children.
He said they are helping the most vulnerable sector and they believe no child should be on the street, be deprived of education, or subject to abuse.
Balcells said “It is not an easy journey but at the same time it is wonderful. We are witnessing miracles happen every day because a child rescued is one more life in this world.”
Most of the children are top in their class, she said.
She also said they desperately need help to provide nutritious food for the children and to send them to school and buy their needs and asking the public to be part of this journey and be part of Kalipay Negrense.
Present at the launching were Bacolod Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson, Councilor Catalino Alisbo, Secretary to the Mayor Moises de la Cruz and MassKara Queen 2012 Ena Louise Velasco.
