BARN launching set
BY CARLA GOMEZ

A movement organized after the passing away of Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo, and called Be A Robredo-Negros (BARN), will be launched at the University of Saint La Salle coliseum in Bacolod City Saturday morning.

Robredo died in a plane crash off the shore of Masbate City on August 18.

BARN is our tribute to a good man who stood for servant leadership and to a Filipino hero who believed that all Filipinos including the down-trodden and impoverished can be part of nation-building, Agnes Hechanova, one of the organizers, said.

“We want his passing to have a purpose; we do not want his spirit of service to die with him but rather to serve as an example to all Filipinos especially the youth,” she said.

She said about 200 students and members of non government organizations who form part of BARN will attend its launching with Dr. Francisco Magno, director of the De La Salle UniversityJesse M. Robredo Institute of Governance, as guest speaker.

Magno is vice president of the Local Governance Training and Research Institutes-Philippine Network, Transparency and Accountability Network and the International Academy of Chief Information Officers. He has also been a Visiting Professor and Researcher in various universities, including Florida State University, University of Reading, Waseda University, and Hiroshima University.

Hechanova said the mission of BARN is to hold every person running for publicoffice and those already in government service accountable to the standards and values of Robredo.

BARN also aims to inspire every Filipino to live by the standards and values of Robredo by being selfless in serving others, genuinely concerned for the poor, simple, faithful to our values, and proud of our country, she added. *CPG
