NPA pays tribute
to slain comrade

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The New People’s Army South West Negros Front hailed the slain Julia Tabat as a martyr of the revolutionary movement, for offering her life in fighting against the military, its spokesperson, Andrea Guerrero, said yesterday.

Tabat, who had the with aliases of “Ka Gab” and “Pinay,” died recently in an encounter with 47th Infantry Battalion soldiers in Brgy. East, Candoni, Negros Occidental, military records show.

Guerrero said Tabat reached the highest form of service to the masses by joining the NPA as a full-time red fighter in 2003, after having been actively involved in church activities as organizer of the Kristianong Katilingban, a day care center teacher, and technician-organizer volunteer for sustainable agriculture and environmental protection in southern Negros.

A graduate of a forestry course, Tabat was captured with two others by 61st Infantry Battalion soldiers in Brgy. Molobolo, Cauayan in 2004, for illegal possession of explosives, military records also show.

Guerrero said that Tabat served as a cadre of the Communist Party of the Philippines and a staff member of the South West Front –Negros, and as medical chief of the whole southern Negros district.

Ka Julia was not only a dedicated mother to her family but served as “Mamang” to the communities she had served, Guerrero added.*GPB.
