44 Neg. Occ. firemen participate
in skills, ground survival training

Forty-four firefighters from the cities and towns of Negros Occidental are participating in the six-day firefighting skills and fire ground survival training being conducted by GlobalFire, an international disaster relief organization based in Canada, at the Amity Public Safety Academy in Bacolod City.

The training course, conducted by Canadian firefighting trainers Craig Richard Lester, Mark Nelson Matheson and Shane Allen Wickens, is for previously-trained and experienced firefighters to refresh their skills and improve their technical firefighting and fire ground survival knowledge, a press release from the Capitol said.

Firefighters from the Amity Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Bacolod Chamber Volunteer Fire Brigade also participate in the training, that will end on Saturday at the Provincial Capitol in Bacolod, the press release added.*

Agri conference held

The Association of City and Municipal Agriculturists in Negros Occidental conducted a conference on agricultural plans for 2013 at Barangay Balaring in Silay City yesterday, a press release from the city said.

City Agriculturist Jason Benedicto said city and town agriculturists and aqua-culturists, and staff of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturists of Negros Occidental attended the activity, led by ACMA chairman Enrique Escares III and OPA supervising agriculturist Lucille Gelvolea.

The conference aimed to come up with activities and projects for 2013, and for the Organic Festival, to be held November 22 to 25 in the province, the press release added.*

UNO-R student to attend
Young Leaders Summit

A student of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, John Floyd Abrico, will represent the Philippines in the ASEAN Young Leaders Summit in Jakarta, Indonesia December 5 to 9, a press release from the school said.

The summit will bring together alumni of the Southeast Asian Youth Leadership Program from all 10 ASEAN countries, a letter from the US Embassy said. Abrico, an Engineering junior and UNO-R Supreme Student Government senate president, also went to Japan last year and to the U.S. during his high school years to attend a similar summit, the press release said.

Meanwhile, Shad Roi dela Cruz, a BS Computer Science Junior, qualified for the final screening of the 15th Ayala Young Leaders Congress 2013, and will have his final panel interviews November 21 to 23 at the company headquarters in Makati City, the press release added.*

Medical mission,
consultation held

Around 200 residents benefited from the medical mission and barangay consultation conducted by the Office of Rep. Mercedes Alvarez (Neg. Occ., 6th District), Candoni Mayor Jechnonias Manzano, the Philippine Army and JCI CHICKS United in Brgy. Payauan, Candoni recently, a press release her office said.

About 500 packs of school supplies were also distributed to students of Payauan Elementary School in the town by Alvarez and Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Members Pedro Zayco and Helen Zafra, the press release also said.

The activity was in line with the CHICKS Caravan Project organized by Alvarez with her father, Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez Jr., to bring government services to the people, especially in far-flung barangays.

The services include free medical check up with medicines, tooth extraction, legal consultation, seminars, and free registration of births and sponsored mass weddings, the press release said.

Areas that have benefited from the project are barangays Camindangan and Manlucahoc in Sipalay City, Sangke and Damutan in Hinobaan, Carol-an and Locotan in Kabankalan City, Tabu, Canlamay and Balicotoc in Ilog, Baclao in Cauayan and Agboy in Candoni, the press release added.*
