3rd Marañon Boxing Cup
starts tomorrow in Silay

Top boxers in the province who won the qualifying matches in their districts, will face each other in their respective weight categories to vie for the title in the 3rd Alfredo Marañon Jr. Amateur Boxing Championship tomorrow at the Natalio G. Velez Sports and Cultural Center in Silay City.

All competing boxers will have their weigh-in today, Silay City Assistant Sports Coordinator Glen Dacula said.

Aside from the fighters and their trainer, sports and government officials are also expected to watch the championship bouts tomorrow, he added.

The competition is one of the banner sports programs of Gov. Alfredo Marañon, who said that boxing is one sporting event that has constantly given the province and the country pride and honor.

He said the provincial tournament aims to develop and discover young boxers and to produce potential boxing icons in the country.

Leading the new boxing talents in the province are the pugs from Escalante City, who dominated the qualifying round in the second district, as well as the fighters from Talisay City, Bago City, and La Castellana town, who ruled the third, fourth and fifth districts elimination round of the tournament.

Earlier, Provincial Sports head Angel Verdeflor said that the quarterfinals will start on Nov. 17 with the championship matches scheduled on Nov. 18.*NAB
