The Garden Club turns golden

Nostalgia and remembrances of times past prevailed during the Negros Occidental Garden Club’s 50th anniversary celebration.

A grand opening was held at the 2nd floor of Robinsons Place Bacolod last Saturday morning, attended by prominent guests and members of the club. Dashing gents and so many glamorous ladies dressed in Filipiniana complete with bling-blings gathered at the entrance of the photo exhibit that was festooned with gold and white balloons and gave it a welcoming ambiance. The main décor was a gigantic, multi-colored flower arrangement of lilium, carnations, a variety of heliconias in sexy pink, reds and yellows, lavender beehive and torch ginger, that simply took one’s breath away.

An elegant lady, Nena de Leon, cut the ribbon assisted by the past presidents of the NOGC, while Msgr. Vic Rivas led the invocation and blessed the exhibit. Guests looked over the tarps display of photos of the club’s founder and past presidents spanning 50 years of existence.

NOGC vice president Lourdes Mercado gave the welcome address as the president, Fe Remitio, was still recovering from her knee ailment. The audience was entertained with special numbers performed by Celine Khalid’s violin students and St. Scholastica’s NOPSSCEA champion in the folkdance competition elementary level.

Everyone enjoyed the snacks served after the program while recalling the good times of the club for the past five decades.

Kudos to the organizers for a smashing opening.*
