A woman, believed to be mentally unstable, was killed on the spot when she was sideswiped by a car in what appeared to be a hit-and-run incident at Burgos Extension in Bacolod City Tuesday night.
Killed was Jean Servañez, 50, of Purok Carvic in Brgy. Mandalagan, Bacolod, City Traffic Management Unit chief investigator, Senior Police Officer 1 Dennis Perma, said yesterday.
Investigation showed that the red Hyundai car was heading east of Burgos Extension when it sideswiped Servañez, who was walking beside the road at about 11:35 p.m.
The car also dragged the woman several meters away from the point of impact and immediately sped off from the area after the accident, Perma said.
He also said that there is a possibility that the unidentified driver of the car did not notice Servañez because the area was dark.
A security guard of the nearby gasoline station told the police that he saw Servañez walking beside the road and later heard a bang.
The police are now coordinating with Hyundai Bacolod for the possible identity of the owner of the car that sideswiped Servañez.
Yesterday, Perma appealed to the driver to surrender to the TMU or to the nearest police station and help the family of the victim.
TMU records show that there have been 50 deaths from traffic accidents in Bacolod City since January, this year.*APN
