NOPPO monitoring 6 cities,
2 towns for illegal gambling
BY MARICAR ARANAS

Police Regional Office 7 director, Chief Supt. Marcelo Garbo Jr., called the blatant operations of illegal gambling, especially “swertres”, in Negros an insult to the PNP, and enjoined chiefs of police in Negros Oriental to stop them.

In a command conference Wednesday at the Negros Oriental Provincial Police headquarters at Camp Fernandez, Aga-an in Sibulan, Garbo said that, while there is no deadline for the crackdown against illegal gambling, he wants to see results, not in the number of operations, but in the actual elimination of illegal gambling.

NOPPO director, Senior Supt. Edward Carranza, said Bayawan, Dumaguete, Tanjay, Bais, Guihulngan and Canlaon cities, and Manjuyod and Sta. Catalina towns are being watched closely regarding illegal gambling.

Six residents to be declared
‘Outstanding Dumaguetnons’
BY MARICAR ARANAS

Six residents will be awarded as “Outstanding Dumaguetnons 2012” during the Charter anniversary celebration of Dumaguete City on Nov. 22.

City Administrator William Ablong, chair of the Evaluation and Awards Committee, said the six will be recognized for their professional excellence, integrity, innovation and service to the community and the country.

The city government initially targeted 10 Dumaguetnons, but because of time constraints, only six pioneer awardees were chosen.

Cops probe slaying
of ‘police character’

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The Sibulan Police Office is facing a blank wall on the motive and identities of the three men who shot dead a known police character in the town at around 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Sibulan police chief, Senior Insp. Rodrigo Tubog, identified the fatality as Raymund Sacam, of legal age, and a resident of Magatas, Sibulan.

The police said Sacam had several criminal cases filed against him, one of them for frustrated murder, that was dismissed later. He was tagged a “police character” for his involvement in a variety of crimes, particularly, robbery, said Tubog, who declined to comment on the possibility that vigilantes had perpetrated the crime.
