Chua kin offer
reward to solve slay
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

A reward of half a million pesos in cash is being offered by the family of slain hotelier Johnny Chua to anyone who could shed light on his killing, Bacolod City Police Director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, said yesterday.

De la Paz said he believes that with the reward being offered, other suspects behind the shooting of Chua and the mastermind of the crime will soon be identified.

He said this gesture of the Chua family also indicates that they want to help in resolving the crime. The reward being offered is advantageous as it will encourage those who may have knowledge to his killing to come out.

Several weeks have passed since the killing of Chua and the case build-up being conducted by the Task Force Chua is still ongoing and is now more than 50 percent complete, De la Paz added.

The Bacolod City police have names of possible suspects in the killing, but De la Paz said they could not file charges yet against them as they do not have concrete evidence.

Chua’s family sought the help of the National Bureau of Investigation last week in conducting a parallel investigation on his case.

Chua, 63, of Capitolville Subdivision, Bacolod City and owner of the Eastwest Hotel was on his way home from the Bacolod downtown area, when he was shot, allegedly by suspected gun-for-hire Pic Raymond Longno, 37, of Malaspina Street, Brgy. Villamonte, Bacolod, at the junction of JV and Burgos Streets at about 6 p.m. on October 20.

Longno, was, however, shot by two bonnet-wearing men the following day while he was walking at Malaspina Street. He died at the Bacolod Doctor’s Hospital.

De la Paz said whoever ordered the killing of Chua may also be involved in the assassination of Longno, that was probably intended to silence him.*APN
