Miss Earth bets to
model local gowns
BY MARICAR ARANAS

Twelve Miss Earth 2012 candidates and the reigning titlist, Olga Mercedes Alava Vargas of Ecuador, will model the gowns made by local designers during the fashion glamour show, 8 p.m. tomorrow, at the Lamberto Macias Cultural and Sports Complex in Dumaguete City, Negros Occidental.

The show and countryside visit to the province is part of the activities of the Miss Earth candidates before their pageant night on November 24 in Pangasinan.

Raffy Duhaylungsod of the Tourism Educators Council of Negros Oriental and Siquijor said the Carousel Productions Inc., the organization that owns and runs the contest, said local designers will provide the gowns and beach wear to be modeled by the candidates.

This will benefit designers in the province, in terms of exposure, he added.

The best make-up artists in Negros Oriental will also become the official stylists of the candidates who will arrive in Dumaguete City today, including bets from Belgium, Belize, Canada, Korea, Kosovo, Scotland, USA, Zimbabwe, China, Spain and Lebanon, and possibly Peru and Netherlands.

Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce and Industry president, Edward Du, said they allotted P150,000 to host the visit of the candidates until Monday. He said this will not only invite more visitors to Negros Oriental but is also a great opportunity to promote the province to the international community.

He encouraged locals and visitors to watch the fashion show to which admission costs only P50 each. Tickets are available at the Negros Oriental Investment and Promotions Office at the Capitol compound in Dumaguete City.

The beauties will also join the Sandurot Festival street-dancing parade today, aside from a mall tour and a press presentation at the Robinsons Place, tree- planting activity at the Energy Development Corporation Southern Negros Geothermal Production in Valencia town, scenery pictorials and outdoor activities at the Tierra Alta Residential Resort, student’s environmental forum at St. Paul University-Dumaguete, and campus tours in Silliman University, Foundation University, Negros Oriental State University, and other educational institutions in the province.*MA
