Tourism industry opposes
DFA directive on passports

Tourism industry leaders in Region 7 renewed call for the Department of Foreign Affairs to take action on their complaint on its directive giving accredited travel agencies only until the end of the year to continue assisting clients in passport processing.

Robert Lim Joseph, who chairs the Tourism Educators and Movers Philippines and chairman emeritus of the National Association of Independent Travel Agencies, said small travel agencies will be forced to close if the DFA pushes through with the deadline.

He said a “substantial portion” of the incomes of travel agencies come from fees collected for passport processing.

Puno installed in law
professors’ hall of fame

Justice Ricardo Puno Sr., will be installed today as one of the “Ten Outstanding Senior Professors of Law”, or the “Magnificent 10”, in the Law Professors Hall of Fame by the Legal Education Board Monday at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

The Hall of Fame was established by the Legal Education Board, the agency responsible for the administration of the legal education system in the Philippines.

The LEB, led by Justice Hilarion Aquino, and the Members of the Board and the Committee, in partnership with the Philippine Association of Law Schools and the Ateneo Law School, have also invited Puno to give the response on behalf of the 10 Hall of Famers and 10 posthumous awardees of the honorary title, “Law Professor Emeritus”.

Social media gab
conducted in Dumaguete

The chat series “Social Media for Social Change” was conducted by Rappler.com at Silliman University in Dumaguete City, Negros Occidental, yesterday, a press release from the social news network said.

It was spearheaded by CEO and executive editor Maria Ressa, keynote speaker of “#MoveDumaguete: Pushing Environmental Journalism Forward,” whose lecture, titled “Social Media for Social Good,” focused on how social media is changing the world and how far it has enabled the people to be part of the change they want to see, the press release said.

She said that, aside from socializing and connecting with friends and family, social media can be used to spark and start positive change in the society.
