Cops eye family feud in
slay of police asset

BY ADRIAN NEMES III
The killing of a police asset at a pension house in Brgy. Mandalagan, Bacolod City, Saturday could have been triggered by an old family feud between two clans in Brgy. Canlunsong in E.B. Magalona town, Negros Occidental.

This was the view of City Police Director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz yesterday who also said they continue to dig deeper into the reason for the fatal shooting of Lauro Delgado Jr., “alias Onyot”, of Brgy. Alicante, E.B. Magalona.

De la Paz said Delprado sustained 38 gunshot wounds indicating that the suspects were really mad at him.

De la Paz also said they are also looking into the possibility that the suspects are members of the rival clan of Delgado’s family, who were retaliating because he had been tagged as the suspect in the killing of their relatives and the burning of their houses in Brgy. Canlunsong last year.

He added that Delgado had also been tagged in the killing of a certain Gerald Dela Torre, a relative of the rival clan.

On August 24, 2011, Delgado’s father Lauro Delgado Sr, a former Kagawad of Brgy. Canlunsong was also murdered, allegedly by members of their rival clan, police records show.

De la Paz appealed to the woman who accompanied Delgado to the Kimas Pension house to surface and shed light on the killing of Delgado, or she will be included as a suspect.

He added that they already have the names of the possible suspects in the killing but refused to identify them while the investigation goes on.

Supt. Rosauro Francisco, Silay City police chief, confirmed yesterday that Delgado is, indeed, been their asset for six months now and was instrumental in the arrest of an alleged notorious leader of a robbery gang, identified as Nestor Valentino,44 at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod.

Franciso also said that the members of the rival clan of the Delgados are also part of the group led by Valentino.

One of the suspects, who is believed to have used a .9-milimeter pistol, shot Delgado, who shot back with a .45 caliber pistol, but, being already seriously injured fell to the floor.

Another suspect then took Delgado’s firearm and shot him on the head before leaving with his two cohorts on a Rusi Motorcycle, Delgado was rushed to the Riverside Medical Center, where he was declared dead on arrival.*APN
