The official pilgrimage icon of San Pedro Calungsod, the country’s second saint, will arrive in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, 10 a.m. today.
Msgr. Julius Heruela, rector of the St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish in Dumaguete, said the icon will be welcomed at the Dumaguete port by Msgr. Gamaliel Tulabing, administrator of the Dumaguete Diocese, members of the clergy and the laity, and devotees.
The entourage, that will pass by the Looc Elementary School, the Piapi ES and the Hall of Justice, will proceed to the Capitol building and welcomed by Gov. Roel Degamo. A short blessing and prayer will be held before the icon will be brought to the St. Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral, Heruela said.
Other activities lined up for the overnight stay of the saint’s image at the Cathedral are a Holy Mass at 5 p.m., praise and worship, 7:30 p.m. to be led by the Bukas Loob ng Diyos group; a Taize prayer with the Cathedral Parish Youth Council at 11 p.m.; film showing of the life of Calungsod, 1 a.m., serenade at 3 a.m. and an “Aurora”, or dawn rosary procession, 4 a.m., around the city.
Heruela said pilgrims are allowed to venerate the image of the saint, starting from its arrival at the Cathedral.
A farewell mass is set 5 a.m. tomorrow before the departure of the image en route to Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.*JFP
