Chief of police resigning
for not stopping gambling

The chief of police of Bayawan City, Insp. Teodorico Picardal, yesterday said he will resign from his post for his failure to stop illegal gambling operations in his area.

Picardal signified his intention to PNP deputy provincial director, Supt. Alet Virtucio, but the official letter has not yet reached the provincial command.

Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office director, Senior Supt. Edward Carranza, said the resignation will be considered and he will deploy an OIC police chief for Bayawan.

Dumaguete City has
new cop chief

Supt. James Goforth yesterday assumed as chief of police of Dumaguete City, to replace Supt. Crisaleo Tolentino, who has been assigned to Mandaue City.

The changing of the guards from OIC chief, Insp. Eddie Oira, to Goforth was officiated by Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office director, Senior Supt. Edward Carranza, and witnessed by Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria.

Goforth, who hails from southern Luzon, got his orders from the NOPPO, PNP Region 7 and the city to eradicate the illegal numbers game “swertres” and illegal drugs.

Calungsod image arriving

The official pilgrimage icon of San Pedro Calungsod, the country’s second saint, will arrive in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, 10 a.m. today.

Msgr. Julius Heruela, rector of the St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish in Dumaguete, said the icon will be welcomed at the Dumaguete port by Msgr. Gamaliel Tulabing, administrator of the Dumaguete Diocese, members of the clergy and the laity, and devotees.

The entourage, that will pass by the Looc Elementary School, the Piapi ES and the Hall of Justice, will proceed to the Capitol building and welcomed by Gov. Roel Degamo. A short blessing and prayer will be held before the icon will be brought to the St. Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral, Heruela said.
