AACI Trading secures top spot in
Fil-Sino basketball tournament

AACI Trading trounced JSY Countertrade, 88-72, to take the No. 1 seat, while JSY Transport secured the No. 3 spot by outpointing AACI Transport, 82-71, in the last day of elimination in Class B of the Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade 3rd Conference Inter-Color Basketball Tournament at Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang gym.

AACI Trading and JSY Countertrade finished the elimination round tied at 4-2 but Trading notched the No.1 seed owing to a better quotient. JSY Transport is at 3-3 and AACI Transport finished at 1-5.

Semifinals is set this Friday with AACI Trading and JSY Countertrade armed with a twice-to-beat advantage against JSY Transport and AACI Transport, respectively.

In taming JSY Countertrade, AACI Trading pulled away in the second quarter with a 32-point quarter points to post a commanding 49-32 lead at halftime as RJ Iligan sunk three treys for 11 points and Cezar Noble added 10 points.

Countertrade sliced the lead to 66-53 going to the fourth quarter behind the trio of Ariel Jimenez, Ryan Tumbagahan and Jan Jan Young.

Young and Tumbagahan continued to carry the load of the offense with a pooled output of 13 points in the payoff quarter, but the combined five triples converted by Luigi Coo and Noble for a total of 18 points, stymied the Countertrade comeback.

Noble paced Trading with 17 points, Coo added 16, Mark Velez shot 13, Jolly Castillo made 9 points, and Chingsan Su had 8 points.

Young finished with a game-high 20 points, Tumbagahan hit 14, Jimenez shot 10, Wilson Dy made 8, and Brian Ong delivered 7 points.

In the second game, Eduardo Ng knocked in five triples to break from his shooting slump and paced JSY with 17 points.

Bryan Victor Javelosa and Christopher Mahinay combined for 14 points to lead AACI Transport to a 20-17 advantage even as Stephen Tan made 3-of-3 from the field to finish with 8 points for JSY.

Eduardo Ng sunk three triples and Ervin Tan scored 6 points, pushing JSY to the lead at the break, 39-32.

Monroe Chua led a balance third quarter offensive extending the JSY advantage to 60-44.

Keith Banzon hit three triples, Mahinay with 8 points and Garret Tabanao 6 points as AACI drew closer at 70-65 with three minutes left in the game

A 7-0 response from JSY courtesy of a three-point play from Tubby Villanueva, a bunk shot from Monroe Chua, and Mike Miranda’s reverse layup sealed the outcome of the game.

Miranda added 12 points, Rey Jara had 10, Tubby Villanueva scored 9, Monroe Chua tallied 8, Berto Uy with 7 points.

Mahinay and Banzon scored 18 and 17 points, respectively in a losing effort while Javelosa picked up 10 points and Tabanao made 9 points.*NAB
