Organic festival

The 7th Negros Island Organic Farmers Festival started yesterday until tomorrow in Bacolod City.

The program started with a “hataw sa lagoon”, followed by a thanksgiving mass at Capitol ground in Bacolod City officiated by Father Armando Onion of the Our Lady of Most Holy Rosary Parish-Eroreco. The prayer, singing of the national anthem and the provincial hymn were led by the Capitol Employees Choir.

Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. and Department of Agriculture Region 6 executive director, Larry Nacionales, cut the ribbon, while Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Member Mae Javellana and Bacolod Councilor Carl Lopez led the releasing of doves to signify the opening of the Festival.

In attendance were DA Assistant Secretary Salvador Salacup, Edgardo Uychiat of the Negros Island Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development Foundation, Ramon Uy Jr. of the Organic na Negros! Organic Producers and Retailers Association, and other provincial, city, and government agency employees.*

Our Lady of Miraculous
Medal chaplaincy turns 50

The Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Chaplaincy in Barangay Montevista, Bacolod City, will celebrate its golden jubilee on November 27, in honor of its Patroness, the Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, on the theme “Aiming for Eternity with Mary”, a press release from the parish said.

The activities include a Diana at 4 a.m., procession, 6:30 a.m.; concelebrated mass with Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra, 9 a.m.; games with the Diocesan priests, 2 p.m.; raffle draw, 3 p.m., and the priests' and community night, starting at 6:30, the press release also said.

The parishioners and the public are invited to take part in the celebration, that will be led by Fr. Francisco Perez, Pastoral Council president Arturo Eusebio Jr. and Finance Council president Lorenzo Cabalfin Jr.

The parish has established the Basic Ecclesial communities in puroks Riverside, Bayanihan, Villa Fe, Isla, Greensville III, Sabes, Banaue, and Capitol Heights 3, the press release added.*

2 mall employees
commended

Cash and valuables found by honest employees of SM City Bacolod were returned to their rightful owners in two separate incidents last week, a press release from the mall said.

Esteban Daulong III, a general services worker employed at the mall at the reclamation area, found a black wallet at the lotto outlet in the building’s south wing that contained important documents, card and P34,200 in cash. Daulong endorsed the item to SM’s customer relations service office, and the security officers obtained the owner’s contact details, the press release said.

The rightful owner, a male, who is not being named to protect his privacy, retrieved the wallet and said he thought that he was pickpocketed.

Meanwhile, Pederick Sa-an, also a general services personnel and assigned at the SM Event Center, recovered a Samsung brand cellular phone left by a customer during the mall’s Christmas Centrepiece launching program.

The owner, identified only as Dennis, discovered the phone missing hours after. Dennis shared through social media, via his Facebook wall, his thanks to the mall.

Daulong and Sa-an are among the hundreds of utility staff of SM City Bacolod, the press release said.

Other cases of honest SM employees have been documented this year, including a janitress who found P75,000 cash and security guards and utility personnel who recovered and returned various valuables, the press release added.*

Silay celebrates
Boys, Girls Week

The Boys and Girls Week activity of the Silay City government, in coordination with the Rotary Club of Silay, is ongoing until Sunday, a press release from the city said.

Student Mayor Liza Paola Wong of St. Teresita’s Academy and Vice Mayor Jen Absalon of Silay Institute led other student officials of the Rotary Club in taking their oath of office before Mayor Jose Montelibano, VM Mark Golez and some members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod at the public plaza covered court Monday.

Rotary president Jeanet de Belen said that, every year, the club implements the Boys and Girls Week because it believes that exposing the youths to the workings of the government early would make them better citizens, the press release said.

Meanwhile, around a hundred pupils of St. John’s Institute are expected to participate in the farm tourism package, titled “Fun Under the Sun”, in Hda. Adela Folklore Village in Silay City today, the press release said.

The activity, that aims to acquaint children from the urban areas with the lifestyle of the people in the farm, will feature caro-carabao ride, munching sugarcane, feeding the chicken, goats and carabaos, cockfighting and breaking pili nut shells.

The hacienda children will be the tour guides, and the pupils will donate reading materials and stuff toys, and will share their snacks with their hosts, the press release also said.

Other places to be visited are the San Diego Pro-Cathedral, Balay Negrense, the Jalandoni and Silay museum, the press release added.*
