IN SIBULAN
Doc tags cop in slay try
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The doctor who survived the attempt on his life has tagged a policeman detained at the Bacong Police Station as the suspect in the shooting incident at around 6 p.m. Wednesday in Purok Apitong, Brgy. Tubtubon, Sibulan, Negros Oriental.

Dr. Wilson Banzon Tan, 57, of Sibulan, sustained three gunshot wounds and is now recuperating at the Holy Child Hospital in Dumaguete City.

Tan told the police he was on his way home with his 12-year-old daughter and has reached the small bridge in Boloc-boloc, Apitong, when he heard somebody outside his vehicle say in vernacular “mao na siya gyud (He is the one.)”

Tan told the police the voice was that of Police Officer 2 Virgilio Giducos, also of Sibulan.

He said he accelerated but was followed by a motorcycle-riding suspect, who drew a gun and fired at him. The police said the suspect was wearing a helmet.

Sibulan Police chief, Insp. Rodrigo Tubog, summoned Giducos but was told by his wife that the cop was in Cebu.

Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office director, Senior Supt. Edward Carranza, said Tan and Giducos know each other as the doctor has filed a case against the policeman that is pending before the Office of the Ombudsman.

Carranza directed Tubog and Bacong police chief, Insp. Felicisimo Aranas, to conduct a thorough investigation of the shooting incident. He said Giducos has the right to due process and to defend himself in court.

No case has been filed against Giducos as of press time, Carranza added.*JG
