The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council, in partnership with the United States Fire Service, has identified Negros Occidental as among the three pilot sites in the country, in the implementation of the Incidence Command System (ICS), aimed at providing local government units, government agencies and responders with skills and knowledge on efficient management of emergency operations.
Rosario Cabrera, Office of the Civil Defense 6 regional director, yesterday said that Negros Occidental has been chosen among the pilot sites for the ICS implementation in provincial category, for being included in the Hall of Fame in disaster response and management.
Cabrera, who supervised the ongoing ICS training for Iloilo and Guimaras participants in Talisay City, said ICS is an on-scene disaster response mechanism to ensure effective and efficient response, in times of emergencies.
Patterned after the National Incidence Management System (NMIS) of the United States, ICS specifically allows responders to adopt an integrated organizational structure equal to the complexity and demands of any single incident or multiple incidents, without being hindered by jurisdictional boundaries.
The participants of ICS training are representatives of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and National Police, Coast Guard, Departments of Health and Social Welfare and Development, search and rescue groups, among others.*GPB back
