Peace forum set tomorrow

A roundtable discussion on the “Bantay Bayanihan” project will be held tomorrow at Bethel Guesthouse in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, a government press release said.

The activity is part of the project’s series of dialogs to solicit feedback on how it will affect communities, and will be attended by representatives from the civil society organizations, Philippine National Police and units of the Armed Forces of the Philippines involved in operations, intelligence, civil military, human rights, education, and training.

Bantay Bayanihan convenor Marietta Jambora said the project concept and work parameters will be presented during the dialog.

The project aims to monitor the implementation of the AFP’s Internal Peace and Security Plan-Bayanihan and to provide a venue where issues of peace and security can be openly discussed.

The AFP engages civil society organizations and the academe in framing what they want to do in the next six years.

Jambora said a network of civil society organizations serve as a core group for the project, with the Ateneo de Manila University Department of Political Science-Working Group acting as convener-secretariat, the press release added.*
