UNO-R eliminates WNU, 
secures semifinals berth

An offensive putback from Patick Dave Yulo and a layup from Emmanuel Bernales with less than a minute left in the game sealed the win for University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos against defending champion West Negros University, 51-48, in the quarterfinals of the NOPSSCEA high school boys’ basketball at the WNU Gym, Saturday.

With WNU junior Mustangs up by a point, 48-47, Yulo’s putback allowed the young Rams to take the lead in the dying seconds of the game.

The junior Mustangs failed to score in their next possession while UNO-R managed to get another two points from Bernales for a three-point advantage.

Basecom tames Organic Solutions,
Jast beats Tigers in Fil-Sino cagefest

Basecom withstood the fourth quarter rally of Organic Solutions to escape with a 110-108 victory, while Jast Enterprises routed Huminova Tigers, 103-73, at the close of the Class A elimination round in the Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade 3rd Conference Intercolor Basketball Tournament at the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.

The loss of Organic Solutions allowed Jast Enterprises to tie them atop the standings at 4-2. Basecom improved to 3-3 and the Tigers dropped to 1-5.

Organic will meet Basecom again on Wednesday in the semifinals and Jast will face the Tigers in the other match-up. Both Organic and Jast will have a twice-to-beat advantage.

Ceres FC edges Cebu to
top Visayas qualifier

Ceres Football Club beat Cebu, 1-0, yesterday to dominate the Visayas qualifier of the PFF SMART National Club Championships in San Carlos City yesterday.

Earlier, the team from Bacolod City, strengthened by the presence of six Korean players and members of the U23 Philippine Azkals, unleashed its power on Baybay Leyte FC, 10-0, with Aldrin Dolino and Yoon Byeong Jun scoring three goals each.

Contributing to the win were the goals from Prince Hannesin Antony, Hyung Min Sim, Ian Treyes, and J. Baguioro.
