MTRCB info
drive in city on
The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board is conducting an information drive in Bacolod City to inform the public about the different ratings it is implementing for the protection of young viewers.
The team will discuss updates on the works and accomplishments of MTRCB under the administration of former MTRCB chair Grace Poe Llamanzares, who resigned to join the senatorial race.
MTRCB Board members Jay Revestir, Carmen Musngi, Patricia Binungcal and Cecilia Nubla will also conduct a seminar for the Mass Communications students of the University of St. La Salle at 9 a.m. today.
Musngi said they have come up with new ratings for TV like SPG or Strong Parental Guidance, which is enforced with a higher degree of guidance for the young viewers.
Revestir said these improvements have been implemented in the TV ratings that they want to impart to other parts of the country so the audience will understand their importance. “If we understand these ratings we will be able to advise and guide our children better,” he said.
Musngi said MTRCB also added R-16, which falls between R-13 and R-18, for movie ratings.
The psychologist of the Board has found out that there is a big gap between R-13 (2nd year students) and R-18 (college) so they added R-16 for movies, she said.
Revestir said they rate movies based on their theme, language, sex and violence.
Television on buses and fast crafts are not exempted from the strict guidance of MTRCB. The Board will put up signages in public buses so only TV programs rated G and PG will be shown. Anyone caught violating the law will be meted penalties ranging from P2,000 to P5,000 with cancellation of franchise.
Musngi said they have apprehended some violators in Manila and gave advisories to their managers so they will be aware and will be conscious of the films they choose.
From Bacolod, the team will also conduct information drives in Iloilo and in other parts of the country.*Niña Carmina Nidal back to top |
