City cops get
‘very satisfactory’ rating

BY ADRIAN NEMES III

The Bacolod City Police headquarters got a “very satisfactory” rating from the lead evaluator of the ongoing Annual General Inspection-Operational Readiness Security Inspection Test and Evaluation yesterday.

Supt. Nelson Panaligan, Assistant chief of the Real Estate Management Division of Camp Crame, said that compared to other police units they have inspected in the country, the performance of the BCPO in the management of different crisis situations is close to reality.

During the AGI-ORSITE yesterday, BCPO policemen executed drills like the camp defense, fire plans, arrest techniques, close quarter battle, hostage-taking situation, and scene of the crime operations, civil disturbance management and bomb disposal.

Panaligan said the BCPO policemen are also compliant with the “tamang bihis,” or the correct wearing of uniform and other requirements.

With this, he said, BCPO might again compete with the police units of Baguio and Davao in the best police station on the Philippines category like last year.

Meanwhile, at the Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office, Senior Supt. Marlo Meneses, who led the AGI-ORSITE inspecting team, reminded the policemen in the province of their law enforcement duties and the importance of the police integrated patrol program.

However, Meneses did not give an initial rating on the performances of the provincial policemen.

The AGI-ORSITE is done yearly to inspect the policemen’s readiness in the aspects of operational readiness in crisis management and their compliance with the different polices and guidelines of the PNP

Panaligan, meanwhile, admitted that the Philippine National Police has limited funds for the constructions and repairs of police stations in the country and their budget can only accommodate 20 to 22 constructions and repairs of police stations in a year.

That means that, in a year, only one or two police stations will be repaired and erected in every region, unless, there are officials who are willing to help construct and repair police stations in their own localities, he said.

As to the inadequacy of patrol vehicles, Panaligan said, Camp Crame is mapping out measures to address it, however, the higher PNP command right now is prioritizing municipal police stations.*APN
