‘Reading Day’ held in NegOr
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo led the “Day of Reading” yesterday at the Maslog Elementary School in Sibulan, Negros Oriental, in line with the observance of the National Reading Day spearheaded by President Benigno Aquino III.

Grade 3 pupils of Maslog ES learned how the town of Siaton got its name, and how it developed, during the activity that was attended by the Department of Education Negros Oriental Division, led by Salutiano Jimenez.

Jimenez said it is high time to strengthen the reading habit of children, that has diminished due to technology advances.

The “Day of Reading” is the culminating activity of the National Reading Month celebration every November, that the DepEd declared in 2011.

It emphasizes the importance of reading and enjoins other schools to initiate activities that will support the undertaking.*JG
