BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

An American national was found dead in a rented house in Barangay Upper Cantil-e, Dumaguete City, yesterday.

Dumaguete City police director, Supt. James Goforth, identified the fatality as John Michael Imler, 46, of Oklahoma City, USA, who was found face down in his bed by responding cops.

Goforth said the cause of death is still being determined. He added that Imler may have suffered a cardiac arrest, and it took several persons to carry the remains of the American as he was a big man.

Ranking system for
teachers eyed

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Department of Education Division of Negros Oriental will implement a new system in the ranking of teachers to level the field between those newly-hired and those who have doctorate or masteral degrees.

DepEd-NegOr Supt. Salutiano Jimenez said in yesterday’s division executive conference that the new system will enable everybody, especially hardworking teachers and top performers of the division, to be ranked first.

Whenever there is a ranking, those doing their best are often left behind, including the principals who have accomplished much for their districts, but have no time to go on further schooling, while those with masteral degrees are pursuing their studies, he added.

Priest lauds crackdown
versus illegal gambling
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

Dumaguete Diocese director, Msgr. Gamaliel Tulabing, recently commended the Philippine National Police for intensifying the crackdown on illegal gambling in Negros Oriental, and said he is happy with the order of the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office to eliminate, if not reduce, its operations in the province.

PNP Region 7 director, Chief Supt. Marcelo Garbo, had said earlier that police chiefs in Negros Oriental should significantly reduce or eradicate illegal gambling in their areas of responsibility, or face resignation.

Tulabing said that if the PNP has a standing policy to eradicate gambling with a warning to all police chiefs of relief from assignment for failure to deliver positive results, it is a good indication that the PNP is sincere in their efforts to curb illegal gambling.
