Support for Paglaum
stakeholders assured

Stakeholders behind the creation of Barangay Paglaum in Bacolod City that the city government, under Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson, were assured by Bacolod Councilor Caesar Distrito yesterday that he will continue to support their aspiration.

This was after Distrito, chairman of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Laws, Ordinances and Good Government, was informed by Bacolod Election Officer Mavil Majarucon-Sia about the en banc resolution of the Commission on Elections suspending the scheduled December 15 plebiscite in Barangay Mansilingan.

He said he is aware that those behind the “Barangay Paglaum” move are planning to file a motion for reconsideration with the commissioners of COMELEC, but said he will make sure that all legal actions related to the plebiscite will be done, especially the appropriation of funds for the process.

He said the P3 million budget for the supposed plebiscite appropriated by the city will be reverted to the general fund if not used, and the city council will have to re-appropriate the funds if a new schedule is set.

The COMELEC en banc adopted the recommendationsof Bartolome Simocruz Jr of the Office of the Deputy Executive Director for Operations to schedule to another time after the May 13, 2013 elections, the plebiscite to ratify the creation of Barangay Paglaum.*CGS
