Sugar growers hold
4th general assembly

The Integrated Sugarcane Growers of Negros, Inc. headed by Enrique Rojas held recently its 4th Annual General Membership Assembly at the NFSP Sugar Workers Foundation Social Hall, NFSP Compound, Alijis, Bacolod City, a press release from NFSP said.

Rojas, who is concurrently the president of the National Federation of Sugarcane Planters, thanked the hundreds of members, mostly small farmers, for their continued support and patronage of the association.

“Our association posted significant growth in Crop Year 2011-2012. Our membership increased by 35 percent while our cane deliveries also increased by 26 percent,” Rojas informed ISGNI officers and members.

He cited the Urea importation coursed thru NFSP as one of theprograms of the association thathelped the farmers get access to cheaper fertilizer.

Another important achievement for the crop year. Rojas said, the construction of the Bacolod-Murcia MDDC office, garage and stockroom in Cansilayan, Murcia adjacent to the MDDC’s nursery for high-yielding varieties of sugarcane, the press release said.

Rojas, Jr., who took over as the new MDDC chairman from the late Baldomiro Rio Jr., continued its thrust of providing HYVs and making available farm tractors and equipment to the farmers at very reasonable rates, the ISGNI president added.

Rojas also encouraged ISGNI members and their dependents to avail of the continuing scholarship subsidy and free TESDA-accredited technical and livelihood skills training program thru the NFSP Sugar Workers Foundation, the press release said.

“Last year, we conducted a preventive maintenance workshop for truck drivers and mechanics. Just last month, NFSP also conducted another seminar for tractor drivers and mechanics. I urge you to avail of these training opportunities, especially the skills training at the NFSP Training Center,” Rojas said.

The association also gave away numerous door prizes and three major prizes comprising of a TV set and two carabaos.

During the raffle for the two carabaos, Rojas drew the raffle ticket of his son and namesake, Enrique Rojas, Jr. ISGNI members cheered when the elder Rojas immediately nullified his son’s winning ticket and drew another entry, the press release said.

Eventually, the two work animals went to Wemmie Sayon of Brgy. Blumentritt, Murcia and Chona Caagoy of Brgy. Caliban, Murcia. The two small farmers who won the carabaos thanked the association, and said the animals will be a big help in their farms.

Other ISGNI officers elected to the Board of Directors for Crop Year 2012-2013 are Betty Ditching, Roberto Gonzaga, Augurio Ledesma, Francis M. Rojas, Jose Jerry Garaygay, Roy Rio, Edwin Martir, Enrique M. Rojas, Jr., Jose Ma. Benedicto and Murcia Vice-Mayor Victor Gerardo M. Rojas, the press release added.*
