LP candidates file COCs

Five members of the ruling Liberal Party were the first to file their certificates of candidacy at 10 a.m. yesterday at the provincial Commission on Elections office in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, at the start of the COC filing.

They are Rep. Jocelyn Limkaichong (Neg. Or., 1st District), who is running for governor; her running mate Dr. Edward Mark Macias, for vice governor; Manuel Marino Iway for Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Member, first district; Augustine Miguel Perdices for BM second district; and Clayborne Clyde Lim, BM third district.

Limkaichong will be in a three-cornered fight against incumbent Gov. Roel Degamo of the PDP-Laban and former Finance Secretary Margarito Teves, who reportedly took his oath as member of the Nationalist People’s Coalition recently.

PWD polling places

Election officers in the five cities and 20 towns of Negros Oriental are finalizing the list of special polling places for persons-with-disabilities in the May 13, 2013 elections.

Provincial election supervisor Eddie Aba yesterday said the Commission on Elections central office set October 5 as the deadline for the submission of the proposed special polling places for PWDs.

Such should be accessible, located on the ground floor with a flat and even surface or a ramp, with ample lighting and other amenities that are PWD-friendly, he said. Ideally, at least one special polling place must be allocated near each school being used as a voting center, he added.

Carranza wants CCTVs
installed at NegOr ports

Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office director, Senior Supt. Edward Carranza, is pushing for the mandatory installation of closed-circuit television cameras at various ports of entry to the province to deter criminal activities.

This was after the interception last week of a cache of loose firearms and accessories, that the police believe came from Danao in Cebu province en route to Mindanao via Negros Oriental.

NOPPO Intelligence operatives seized 17 .45 caliber pistols, two KG-9 millimeter sub-machine guns and 37 magazines concealed in seven bags, on board a passenger bus that was about to board a roll-on, roll-off vessel at the Dumaguete port. No arrest was made.
