MEN’S BASKETBALL FINALS
NOPSSCEA Board upholds
tournament officials’ decision

The Board of Directors of the NOPSSCEA supported yesterday the stand of its Committee on Sports that the venue of all final games in men’s basketball will be played at the West Negros University Gym.

In an emergency meeting attended by five of the 15 members of the Board, the NOPSSCEA took up the concerns raised by the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos against one of its players, the officiating, and venue of the best-of-three final series between UNO-R Rams and WNU Mustangs.

In a letter drafted by Committee on Sports chairman Anthony Carlo Agustin and noted by president Dr. Gereon Cabarles, the NOPSSCEA said it has decided to allow UNO-R player Jade Paul Calma to play in the remainder of the championship series “provided he will play with utmost decency and fair play.”

St. John’s Institute high school basketball head coach Dexter Dy expressed concern over the way the NOPSSCEA 2012 tournament is being run, saying the rules are vague on how the team will be seeded in the quarterfinals.

With 26 teams joining the juniors competition, Dy said they were informed that there will be four brackets with at least six teams each, with the top two teams in each bracket advancing to the quarterfinals after the eliminations.

What confuses him, Dy said, was the announced of tournament commissioner Renato Bravo that the last eight teams will be divided into two brackets through drawing of lots.

Silverado leads bowlfest

Silverado ASSFBI led in the premiere division, and RJ Stars/NPBC in the non-rated category of the Suppliers Friendship Open Trio Bowling Tournament at the New Top’s Millennium Plaza Alley in Bacolod City.

St. Joseph – La Salle Alumni Association led in the distaff side.

After three rounds of competition, Cecil Silverio’s Silverado pinbusters are leading with 2,062 points, four pins ahead Sharp Aquos of Irne Diaz with 2,059.
