Couple killed
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A couple was stabbed dead Monday night by a suspect, whom they allegedly harassed after a drinking spree in Purok Barilea, Brgy. Zone 3 in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, police said.

The victims, identified as Cybird Pantaleon, 41, and his live-in partner, Cherryl Baldevilla, 48, succumbed to multiple stab wounds, inflicted by their neighbor, Mark Santillan, investigations of the Cadiz police showed.

Supt. Noel Mana-ay, Cadiz police chief, yesterday said Pantaleon died on his way to the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City, while Baldevilla died on the spot.

Santillan, who was also injured in his left hand index finger, did not resist arrest, when he was apprehended by policemen who responded to the stabbing incident, Mana-ay said.

The two victims and the suspect were having a drinking spree, when a heated argument arose between them.

Mana-ay said Santillan, who went home later was allegedly harassed by the two victims, and this led to a scuffle. The houses of the victims and the suspect are about two meters apart.

Santillan stabbed Pantaleon, alias Butsok, and Baldevilla, alias Bebing with a kitchen knife.

Baldevilla and Pantaleon were brought by the police to the Cadiz Emergency Clinic, for initial treatment of their stab wounds. Pantaleon was later transferred to the St. Anne Medical Center in Cadiz City, and to the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City, but died along the way, Mana-ay said.

Santillan is now in jail, after his minor injury had been treated. A 25-inch kitchen knife, allegedly used in the commission of the crime, was recovered by the police.

A day earlier, a certain Noelito Umangayon,36, was declared dead on arrival at the San Carlos District Hospital, after he was shot, allegedly by Marjivec Mahusay, in Brgy. Lipat-on, Calatrava, police said.

In his report to the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, Senior Inspector Ramil Sarona, Calatrava police chief, said Umangayon succumbed to a gunshot wound in the left side of his chest, that caused his death.

Mahusay, 50, who had used a homemade 357 magnum revolver in shooting Umangayon, was immediately arrested by the Calatrava police and is now in jail.

On the same day, Mario Tanaleon, 32, and a driver, sustained gunshot wounds when he was shot allegedly by Edgardo Yaman, alias Telong, at Purok Luisa, Brgy. Ma-ao, Bago City, police records show.

Yaman ifled after the incident, bringing with him the improvised shotgun he allegedly used in shooting Tanaleon.

Tanaleon is now being treated at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City.* GPB
