Arnaiz, NPC bets file COCs
in second district

Rep. George Arnaiz (Neg. Or., 2nd District), who is seeking reelection, filed his certificate of candidacy yesterday at the provincial Commission on Elections, with his complete slate of board member candidates.

They are incumbent Board Members Erwin Michael Macias and Melimoore Saycon, former board member Mariant Escaño Villegas, and former Dumaguete City Sanggunian member Rommel Erames.

Arnaiz, who is the provincial chair of the Nationalist People’s Coalition, will be up against incumbent Mayor Karen Villanueva of Bais City, and Raul Aniñon, who was charged with a disqualification case by the solon in the May 2010 congressional race.

Arnaiz, who had sought to declare Aniñon a nuisance candidate in the previous election, yesterday said he is no longer interested in filing a similar complaint.

Arnaiz said he is supporting the gubernatorial bid of former Finance Secretary Margarito Teves, who is set to file his COC tomorrow, with his running mate, incumbent Vice Governor Apolinario Arnaiz Jr.

The solon added that the NPC slate for mayors in the second district has also been filled, and that, aside from Mercy Goñi, the party’s official candidate for mayor of Bais City against former mayor Hector Villanueva, the rest are incumbents seeking reelection.

They are Manuel Sagarbarria of Dumaguete City, Marcela Bartoces of Sibulan, Carmelo Remollo of San Jose, Bentham dela Cruz of Amlan, Lawrence Teves of Tanjay City, Apollo Arnaiz of Pamplona, and Ernesto Uy of Mabinay.*JFP
