The National Food Authority in Negros Oriental has a sufficient supply of rice for Negrenses until the end of the year, and in case of calamities and other emergencies, its provincial manager, Carlos Cortes, said yesterday.
Cortes gave his assurance as NFA expects an increase in the request for rice allocation from local government units, after the filing of the certificates of candidacy of those running for elective positions until the May 2013 elections.
He said NFA is obliged to serve the needs of every LGU, depending on the request. Carlos said rice allocation requests of more than 500 bags will need clearance from the NFA regional office in Cebu.
He said the agency no longer has control after the rice is delivered to the LGUs as the NFA has no business meddling in politics.*MA
