MassKara gun ban
violator nabbed

A man who allegedly took money from a store in Bacolod City is the second MassKara gun ban violator nabbed by the police at about 4:30 a.m. yesterday at Amelia Street, Bacolod.

Station 6 commander, Chief Insp. Noel Polines, identified the suspect as Christopher Parreño, 31, of Purok Kingfisher, Brgy. 16, Bacolod, who was arrested in possession of a pin gun, by Police Officer 3 Raphael Palacios and Police Officer 2 Jose Grecia of the Community Police Precinct at the Libertad South Public Market.

Parreño was apprehended on the complaint of Raquel Jane Makilan, 22, and Ian Villanueva, 24, both employed by the Munsterific convenience store at Amelia Street. They told the police that the suspect entered the store, took P1,620 from the cash registrar and fled.

But bystanders, who heard the shouts for help of Makilan and Villanueva, caught and mauled Parreño.

Polines said that, aside from violation of the MassKara gun ban, Parreño will also be charged for theft and illegal gun possession. He is now detained at Police Station 6.

Meanwhile, Bacolod City police director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz said the two cops, who shot a trisikad driver Tuesday in the city, used reasonable force.

Records show that Police Officers 1 Shaun Nelmida and Joemel Mialen of the Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office saw Noel Cabrera, 30, of Galo Street, Brgy. 20, Bacolod, pointing his gun at his father-in-law, Eduardo Rodero, 58, also in the barangay.

The policemen said they tried to pacify Cabrera, who pointed his gun at them, prompting them to shoot him.

But de la Paz also said that, while the policemen only defended themselves, they should explain why they carried guns while in civilian clothes, especially since there is a gun ban in Bacolod because of the 22-day MassKara Festival.*APN

Nurse slashed,
bag snatched

A nurse was wounded in her neck when she tried to wrest her bag from a snatcher at about 1 p.m. yesterday at a subdivision in Brgy. Taculing, Bacolod City.

Serna Rogan, 50, of St. Francis Subdivision, Brgy. Taculing, said she was walking on her way home at Springfield 1 Street when the suspect waylaid her, pointed the knife at her neck, snatched and fled with her bag, that contained 100 British pounds, P1,000 in cash, and documents.

She said the suspect was clad in a maroon T-shirt, was 5’5” to 5’7” tall, slim and had short hair, police records show.

Chief Insp. Noel Polines, Station 6 commander, said they will put up police community centers at the Fuentebella and Doña Juliana subdivisions, two of the largest residential areas in Brgy. Taculing, to prevent robbery hold-up incidents there.

There are already COMPACs in Purok BM in Brgy. Taculing, and at Libertad South Public Market in Bacolod, he said.*APN
