MANILA – Local hog raisers yesterday assured the public that there would be a stable supply of pork ahead of the holiday season, but warned that prices might be affected by rising cost of feeds.
There is ample supply of pork, Edwin Chen, president of the Pork Producers Federation of the Philippines Inc., said at the sidelines of the 19th International Agribusiness Exhibition.
Chen said they do not expect prices of pork products to go up anytime soon, noting that farmgate prices remained relatively low at P95 to P105 per kilo.

The Provincial Veterinary Office of Negros Occidental will hold a veterinary medical mission today and will turn over 200 heads of kabir chicks and 40 piglets to residents of Brgy. Dancalan, Ilog, Negros Occidental.
Dr. RenanteDecena, provincial veterinarian, said yesterday that about 2,610 farm animals will benefit from their medical mission that is part of the 242nd anniversary of the barangay.
He said that the PVO regularly conduct veterinary medical missions to give preventive and curative treatments to animals and boost their resistance and immune systems against viral, bacterial, and nutritional diseases.
Paravets to get
monthly stipend
Paraveterinarians from 17 local government units can now claim their monthly allowances for July and August of P494,500 at the Provincial Treasurer’s Office.
Cathyrine Narez, provincial livestock inspector, said yesterday said that about 495 paraveterians can now get their monthly allowances of P500 per month.
This is a monthly stipend from the provincial government to paravets for in assisting the Provincial Veterinary Office in conducting animal health extension work in their LGUs and barangays, she said.
