PVO med mission
scheduled today

The Provincial Veterinary Office of Negros Occidental will hold a veterinary medical mission today and will turn over 200 heads of kabir chicks and 40 piglets to residents of Brgy. Dancalan, Ilog, Negros Occidental.

Dr. RenanteDecena, provincial veterinarian, said yesterday that about 2,610 farm animals will benefit from their medical mission that is part of the 242nd anniversary of the barangay.

He said that the PVO regularly conduct veterinary medical missions to give preventive and curative treatments to animals and boost their resistance and immune systems against viral, bacterial, and nutritional diseases.

Decena also said they are saturating the CHICKS area (Cauayan, Hinoba-an, Ilog, Candoni, Kabankalan, Sipalay) in their medical missions as the livestock industry is developing in there.

He said Kabankalan City has the highest number of farm animals sold in the livestock auction market last month with 2,247 heads, and they need to maintain good quality livestock products in the area.

The livestock auction market allows the farmers to directly sell their farm animals to the buyers without dealing with middlemen, and are therefore able to put a good price on their animals, Decena added.

He also said the PVO also has the Provincial Animal Genetic Improvement Project on swine that aims to increase the number of high quality performing breeds that will show development in the livestock industry, which producing areas can avail of.*LTG
