CSA, DFA photo,
art exhibit on

A photo-art exhibit, “Captured: A Celebration of Heroism in the Bureaucracy,” of the Civil Service Commission Field Office Negros Occidental and the Department of Foreign Affairs Regional Consular Office Bacolod is being held until Oct. 15 at the DFA Gallery at Circumferential Road in the city, a press release from organizers said.

The artworks and photos were done by DFA Bacolod head Joel Blas, Ma. Teresita Romero, Michelle Ma Belle Tupaz, Jing Torrecampo and Jose Emilio Empestain of the Regional Trial Court, and Bethoven Tiano of the CSC-FO, the press release also said.

Selected works of the Digital Photography and Imaging Society-Bacolod, represented by its president, Jonathan Fortu are also featured as guest participants. The winning photo of Dexter Dizon, an employee of the Pavia, Iloilo local government, in the “Give It Your Best Shot!” photography contest of CSC is also part of the exhibit, that is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the press release said.

GMA stars at
MassKara pageant

Kapuso child stars Jillian Ward and Nomer Limatog will serenade the 12 finalists of the Little Miss MassKara competition during the pageant at 5 p.m. on October 13 at the SM Bacolod Event Centre, a press release from GMA Network said.

The contestants are Melissa Jane Dueñas, Jirean Chris Jorbina, Sharlet Gallada, Yphanny Glam Tribaco, Katherine Mc Comish, Ej Marie Santillan, Mietozsylla Omega, Katrina Aragon, Honoria Fale Bantiling, Cloe Zoe Paderna, Gabrielle Zoe Mabaquiao and Mikaella Villanueva, the press release also said.

The pre-pageant and press presentation will be held 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on October 8, also at the mall. For details, those interested may call the station’s Events and Promo Department at (034) 434-6254, the press release added.*

Negrense officers get high
Army command

Two senior Army commanders, who used to be assigned in Negros Occidental, were among the 12 military commanders who assumed high positions in the Armed Forces of the Philippines, records show.

Negrense Colonel Ademar Tomaro is the new commander of the 602nd Infantry Brigade in Cotabato City.

Tomaro, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class 1982, used to be the 6th Infantry Battalion commander in Iloilo, chief of the AFP Civil Relations Service in Negros Occidental, and inspector general of the 5th and 6th Infantry Divisions, among others.

The 602nd IB is among the military units supervised by the 6th Infantry Division in Mindanao, and is headed by Major General Rey Ardo, also a Negrense.

Newly-promoted Brigadier General Jonas Sumagaysay was designated deputy commander of the AFP Central Command. He used to be the deputy commander of 3rd Infantry Division in Jamindan, Capiz, and commander of the 303rd IB in Negros Occidental.

Sumagaysay (PMA ‘81) also served as the chief of the Presidential Security Group of former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Colonel Roberto Domines (PMA ‘82), commander of the 1001st Brigade, was designated deputy commander of the 7th Infantry Division. He used to be the commander of the 78th Infantry Battalion, deployed in northern Negros.

Colonel Jet Joel Velarmino, a mistah of Tomaro and Domines, who was named deputy commander of the elite Army’s Special Operations Command, used to be commander of the defunct 6th Special Forces Battalion in central Negros.*GPB
