NOPSSCEA MEN’S BASKETBALL
Game Two still possible as
UNO-R appeals case

The Board of Directors of the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural and Educational Association convened yesterday to discuss the schedule set for men’s basketball best-of-three final series.

The schedule had resulted the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos’ no-show in Game 2 and prompted tournament officials to declare West Negros University as this year’s champion.

Dr. Carlos Eduard Legaspi, chairman of NOPPSCEA Committee on Press Relations confirmed there was a meeting but refused to elaborate on the details.

He said majority of the members of the Board were there and they were tasked to hear the sides of all parties concerned regarding the final games.

As the Director of the Student Affairs of UNO-R, Legaspi said the school sent a letter to the NOPSSCEA regarding the lifting of Game 2 forfeiture against the Rams.

Hopefully, the Board will come up with a decision today as to whether the forfeiture will be recalled and Game 2 will be played, and if necessary, Game 3.

The same sentiment was echoed by UNO-R Sports Moderator Ericson Rios, who along with Rams head coach Roladon Aledron, were requested yesterday by the NOPSSCEA Board to give their testimonies.

He said they were only asked to comment about the schedule. Venue, officiating, and result of the previous game were not discussed.

Rios said he reiterated UNO-R’s appeal for reconsideration citing the academic demands on their student-athletes that will not permit the men’s basketball team to play Game 2 set on Oct. 3 at the WNU Gym.

He also mentioned that the schedule was only officially confirmed by Tournament Commissioner Renato Bravo in a letter sent to UNO-R on October 1, 2012.

“We can only appeal for the Board’s reconsideration. Hopefully, the body will recall the forfeiture and set the new schedule this weekend,” Rios said.

He also assured the public that UNO-R’s respect for NOPSSCEA’s integrity remains strong as it had been in the past.

“While some member-schools opted to go on leave during the years of difficult times, UNO-R has always been there supporting and staying loyal to the organization,” Rios said.*NAB
