MassKara opens

“Life is Good in Bacolod” is the theme of the 33rd MassKara Festival that opened with a bang October 1 at the public plaza, and will surely lead to another unforgettable closing rites on October 22.

The opening program was led by Mayor Bing Leonardia and wife, Elsa, with Vice Mayor Thaddy Sayson, Bacolod Sanggunian members Em Ang, Caesar Distrito, and Mona Dia Jardin, festival director Eli Francis Tajanlangit, Bart Orola, and Andy Leonardia, among other guests and personalities.

The thanksgiving mass, officiated by Fr. Naring de la Cruz at the San Sebastian Cathedral Shrine, was the opening salvo for this year’s celebration, then it was off to the plaza for the entertaining program prepared by the festival organizers.

Highlight of the presentation was the dancing fireworks that mesmerized the children beside me.

Watch out for the MassKara Queen coronation night on Oct. 18, and the street dancing competition on October 20 and 21.

Hopefully, the weather will be good and continue to cooperate as we enjoy and participate in the varied activities prepared by the city and festival organizers, with various sectors and the community.*
